Books that I've read like this include
– The Giver
– Brave New World
– A Canticle for Leibowitz
– The Fifth Season seried
I feel like we are entering an era of increased illiteracy and social decline. I am eager for more fiction that explores these kinds of societies. Bonus points for themes of empire, colonialism, capitalism, and guarded knowledge.

Surely Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury should be high on this list? Its a world where the authorities don’t want people to read and for the most part people are happy to go along with it, destroying works of literature. The main character is a Fireman whose job it is to burn books.
Fahrenheit 451!
The Giver is the first book in a Quartet, if you want to keep exploring that world.
The Chrysalids by John Wyndham. Goid stuff.
