As the title says, but I'm also a very picky reader so I'm having trouble finding things that interest me. Here are things I like and don't like (but I'm open to having some of these challenged):
- I can read anything by Henning Mankell all day everyday. I think I've read everything he's written. It's the right pace and character development for me.
- As above, I like crime and mystery, but not necessarily thrillers
- I don't like fantasy or too many supernatural elements. If there are supernatural elements, I like them to be culturally or historically anchored. That said, I read a lot at night so it's hard to read anything that creeps me out at night.
- I'm a historian so historical inaccuracies are annoying.
- I'm a nerd so I like books with research and details. Any field will do. I like learning new things.
- I don't like romance as a genre. I don't mind it if it's not the centre of the plot or if it's necessary for character development. I need to be in the mood to read romance, but it's very hard to stay interested.
- I can't read anything that involves the death of a young child because of accidents or violence. It hits too close to home.
- Books I've read so far this year: Black Sugar (Miguel Bonnefoy), Ours (Phillip B. Williams), Wild Dark Shore (Charlotte McConaghy). Loved all of them.

The Flashman series. The hilarious and scandalous romp of a British soldier in the 1800’s. Excellent history, humour, and hijinks.
