    I’m (30F) a certified bookworm- I average 1 to 2 books a month. That being said, I’m now in a slump!

I some of the notable books I’ve finished recently are the ACOTAR series, “Demon Copperhead”, and “The Thorn Birds”. I just started “Wild Reverence” but I really hate the world building (how does 26yrs pass in less than 150 pages?????).

What I have saved to read currently are: “The Devil All The Time” by Donald Ray Pollock, “Outer Dark” by Cormac McCarthy, “The Prince of Tides” by Pat Conroy, and “Fingersmith” by Sarah Waters.

I want something, any genre, to become fully immersed in. I want something that’s not YA, something beefy and compelling.

    Literally no bad answers!

      The Hearts Invisible Furies

      A Gentleman in Moscow

      Damien by Hesse

Any Donna Tartt (really, theyre all so good)

High Mountains of Portugal by Yann Martel, especially if you like weird books

    2. Jade city by Fonda Lee was pretty interesting for me. Centered around old powerful mob type family rich in jade tryinf to keep their empire. All of the characters were interesting to read about.

Kushiels Dart is a pretty beefy trilogy with a lot of follow up books. Fantasy, set in a kingdom type setting. A lot of court intrigue, political intrigue, andddd some really delish romance in my opinion.

I cannot recommend Chronicles of Avilésor by Sara A. Noë enough! Its a paranormal/dystopian scifi fantasy series. Its technically classified as YA but it does not read like YA! Its dark, it’s gritty. There’s trauma, there’s genetic experimentation, there’s interdimensional conflict. Book 1 mostly lays the groundwork and introduces characters and dynamics and things like that, then book 2 comes in guns blazing and is just incredible. Book 3 has the main characters having to come to terms with a LOT, and book 4 has the most backstory to really show the extent of the torture and experimentation these characters went through.

      If you like literary crime:
      Razorblade Tears by S.A. Cosby
      Literary spy fiction:
The Peacock and the Sparrow by I. S. Berry
(Best book I read in 2024)

I’ve just started Alvaro Enrigue’s new book, Now I Surrender, and it is engrossing. It’s a historical literary novel about the erasure of natives at the US-Mexico borderlands in the 1800s. A lot going on in this story, and I just love his writing style.

His previous book, You Dreamed of Empires, was equally compelling, though in a fever dream kind of way.

    6. My favorite book of 2025 was [The Favorites](https://www.goodreads.com/en/book/show/211399784-the-favorites) . Some places list it as a romance book, but honestly I never felt like it was a true romance book. I loved the characters and how it was written. Like good trash TV in book form.

I’m currently reading [This Story Might Save Your Life](https://www.amazon.com/This-Story-Might-Save-Your/dp/1250395232) . It’s a mystery/thriller book and it’s definitely kept me guessing throughout. It’s the book that got me out of my slump after reading some mid to awful books at the beginning of this year.

I hope this helps you get out of your slump! 📚📖
