I mean I feel like all books explore this on some level, just based on what a book is.
Books that try and do and explain it all on a grandiose level ending up saying less than they think they are. I.e. they try to say everything and end up saying (mostly) nothing.
But to give you a suggestion, I think Stoner by John Williams is a pretty good place to start.
