Is this even a thing? I’m looking for fiction books that are about a person or people who are wronged and eventually get either justice or revenge. A little violence is fine, but I’m bored with the orphan boy who trains all his life to become an assassin and finally kills his enemies or the woman who is assaulted and turns to torture and murder as vengeance. Vigilante violence as the main plot is just boring at a certain point.

Spending years learning about politics to take away the abuser’s personal power base or infiltrating an evil corporation to take it down or catching someone in an evil act and publicly shaming them or stealing someone’s ill gotten fortune or blowing up the alien’s concentration camp after organizing a resistance are more what I’m looking for. Not picky about the genre, though I especially like sci-fi, fantasy, mysteries, and horror. Satisfying ending is essential!

    1. I really enjoyed The Gilded Cage by Camilla Läckberg. A woman wronged by a cheating husband and left with nothing slowly plotting her revenge.

Q&A (aka Slumdog Millionaire) by Vikas Swarup is a story of revenge. The book is significantly different from the movie. Unlike the movie that was about lost love, revenge is the primary motivation in the book. It was a great read.
