I read 8 books in january (which is way more than normal, i just tried to prioritize doing something off of my phone because my daily hours made me cringe) but then i got caught up with work and school and didn’t have it in me to read at all in february. this month i’ve picked up a few books, and when i put them down i just have no desire to pick them back up.

i feel like i need a book that is just moving from start to finish. i like thrillers, romance, fantasy. i just read my first historical fiction book in january (the nightingale) but i feel like it wouldn’t be fast paced enough (but i have only read the one so who knows). if i could find a good fantasy book that was a standalone i would prefer that, but i think most of the best ones are series (i would love to be proved wrong though).

    thank you guys <3

I just read My Husband’s Wife by Alice Finney. It’s a thriller that immediately draws you in, plot is extremely fast paced with a lot of twists. It’s also not very long of a book so I read it in a day.

    3. I’m starting to read some of Stephen King’s books and just finished misery! Really recommended. Have u read any from the author?

part of what has helped me out of a slump was reading short books!! some I’ve loved recently: open throat by henry hoke (about a mountain lion living in the hollywood hills), the stepford wives by ira levin (creepy). as far as fantasy, this isn’t a standalone but i loooooved the raven scholar by antonia hodgson. so funny so sharp so creative and well-done. highly recommend!

If you want to give historical fiction another try I’d suggest The Yellow Wife by Saqeda Johnson for more of a thriller you might enjoy The Firekeeper’s Daughter by Angeline Boulley

Blood Over Bright Haven by M L Wang! It’s a standalone fantasy where the main character is the first female mage. She discovers this big secret and has to reckon with that. I don’t want to say too much and spoil it. This book gets a lot done for being a standalone.

Thrillers are the way to go, fast paced with lots of plot twists.
