The Following is a Fox network psychological thriller series starring Kevin Bacon as former FBI agent Ryan Hardy, who is pulled out of retirement to hunt down a charismatic serial killer, Joe Carroll (James Purefoy), after Carroll escapes from prison. Carroll, a literature professor, has cultivated a cult of fanatical followers who commit murders and abductions to help him achieve his goals, which include getting revenge on Hardy and reuniting with his ex-wife. The series, created by Kevin Williamson, ran for three seasons from 2013 to 2015.
