Hello everyone. Im looking to build a list of books to read to expand my library. Im hoping you guys will share some of your favorites and your recommendations based on the following. Typically, i like Science Fiction and adventure though ive also enjoyed many historical adventure such as Endurance and and a handful of others. Some of my favorite authors of all time include Robert Heinlein, Douglas Adams, and Andy Weir. I also enjoy many “must reads” and or what I, maybe incorrectly, consider classics such as 1984, Fahrenheit 451, The Road, and Lord of the Flies. Ive enjoyed much of the Dune series, some JRR Tolkien, Ian Fleming, Cixin Liu, Sapiens, The Hunger Games Series, the Black Autumn Series, Greg Keyes. As a side note, i also enjoy nonfictional adventure at times like anything to do with Mountaineering. Id love to expand on what I love or try something new if you think I’ll like it.

    1. Some that you might enjoy
      – Seveneves
      – Into Thin Air
      – Slaughterhouse-Five
      – Leviathan Wakes
      – Canticle for Leibowitz.

    2. Cosmos by carl sagan. It is about the origins of the universe and where we are going. And then other patterns that happen again and again. Selected by the library of congress as one of the best books ever written by an American author. Sagan was really smart he led the team that made the golden record on voyager.

And to balance good with the bad this will expand your literacy in the opposite direction is caverns and creatures by robert bevan. People get stuck playing dungeons and dragons for reals like jumanji, but they call it caverns n creatures to avoid copyright. Don’t read any reviews just hit this one blind you will die laughing. The series has a dozen books and short stories it is great.

Check out Jorge Luis Borges short stories. Great intro into LatAm literature. These stories are other worldly in the best way. They have science fiction themes like exploring time, infinity, and reality but is written more from a philosophical perspective. I just discovered him and he is in a league of his own. Some of my favorite short stories are The Library of Babel, Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius, The Garden of Forking Paths, and The Circular Ruins. He wrote poems and nonfiction if you end up liking him. Penguins has a collected fictions omnibus that is a great catch all. Most of the stories are less than 10 pages so they’re quick reads but he packs into 10 pages what most authors can’t do with an entire book.
