Day 5 — Why people sometimes pretend to agree
Agreement doesn’t always mean someone truly agrees with you.
Today’s reading made me think about how often people say “yes” even when they don’t really mean it.
Sometimes people agree simply to avoid conflict. Other times they want to keep the conversation comfortable, especially in social or professional situations. Saying “yes” can be easier than explaining disagreement.
When I was younger, I often assumed that agreement meant understanding or support. But over time I realized that people sometimes nod along just to keep things smooth.
Real agreement usually shows up later in actions, not just words.
Discussion question:
How do you tell when someone truly agrees with you versus when they’re just being polite?
