After a period of struggling to read pretty much anything Ive been really enjoying shorter, "less serious", books. Recent reads Ive enjoyed are

The Cybernetic Tea Shop, Meredith Katz

    Starter Villian, John Scalzi

My Sister The Serial Killer, Oyinkan Braithwaite

Im normally a scifi/fantasy guy, with Becky Chambers, John Windham, Terry Pratchett, and Neil Gaiman being some of my favorite authors but im down for most things outside of romance (dont mind a romance side plot just not my jam as the main story).

Any suggestions for enjoyable shorter novels and novellas

Hitch hikers guide to the galaxy. As an audiobook it’s properly funny.

    2. Yahtzee Croshaw’s ***Will Save the Galaxy For Food*** follows a space pilot scrounging a living after being put out of work by technology advances. The protagonist is a mashup of Han Solo and Crocodile Dundee.

Non-fiction ***What If?: Serious Scientific Answers to Absurd Hypothetical Questions*** by Randall Munroe.

It consists of a series of questions on pop-sci and pop-culture, each answered in one or two paragraphs. The answers are hilarious in a dry-humored way.

An example question is: What would happen if you hit a baseball pitched at 90% of the speed of light?

Martha Wells’ *Murderbot Diaries* series of sci-fi novellas. They follow an ex-military cyborg who hires out as security to humans at the edge of the galaxy, protecting them from the dumb things they insist on doing while all it wants to do is watch soap-opera videos. Action-packed, fast-moving, with minimal world-building.

The first one is ***All Systems Red***.

Maybe The Storied Life of AJ Fikry? 260 pages, about a widowed bookshop owner who finds a baby left at his doorstep. A simple but heartwarming book about a man who’s pushed everyone away slowly finding joy in his life, and meaningful connections with the people around him.
