Swamplandia! Is more Floridian than Deep South but it still could work.

Blackwater Saga, The Elementals, and Cold Moon Over Babylon by Michael McDowell. He was from Enterprise, Alabama, and you can tell he knows how people are and talk down south. If you’re not aware, he co-wrote Beetlejuice, so if you like that weird vibe, you should enjoy his work. His books do have moments of humor, but they’re much less comedic than the movie.
