I’m going to a baby shower where they’re doing the “bring a book instead of a card” thing. I’d love to get something that is not as well known as I feel if I just go to Target there’s a good chance someone else will bring the same book. I don’t have kids so don’t know any baby books and would love suggestions!

We Sang You Home board book is so so good for any two parent family.

      Snugglepuppy board book

Beatrix Potter collection with a Peter Rabbit plushie

      Any Todd Parr book

      Little Witch Hazel

ETA: anti-recommendation for Love You Forever. People feel super strongly for or against this one. I’m against

stretchy mchandsome was one of my kids favorites. The Lorax is well known, but I don’t see it given out as a gift that often. The Mosquito Burrito, Grumpy Monkey, Knight Owl, goodnight gorilla, The Gruffalo, and Penguin and Pinecone are some other favorites that are sort of well known.

Every new baby in my family gets the
All Around Bustletown series (you can opt for one season/book only), by Rotraut Susanne Berner.

It doesn’t matter if you get it in another language,  there are no wordst – but so many hidden stories that even after three kids we still find new storylines!

I tend to give a nice collection of fairy tales or Oh the Places You’ll Go. I got Oh the Place You’ll Go for graduation and I loved it.

Our household favorite is Click, Clack, Moo! Cows That Type. It’s entertaining for grown-ups and for kids because of the repeated Click Clack Moo line.

Caps for Sale is also a classic

Julian is a Mermaid is gorgeous and not very many words which is nice for little ones.

More, More, More Said the Baby by Vera B. Williams

      And seconding Sandra Boynton
