I'm learning Spanish and am at a B1 (low intermediate) level. I'm starting to read whole books, but am struggling with finding fiction books at my level of comprehension, even children's books, because there's a lot of colloquialisms, slang, and figurative language.
For instance, I just started La Casa en Mango Street, thinking it might be a good one because it's short and geared toward middle/high school level readers, but I'm having to look up every other phrase (practically) due to the figurative language.
Does anyone know of good fiction in Spanish (originally or just translated into it) that uses more straightforward, literal language?
I prefer little-to-no profanity and no sexual content. Genre doesn't matter much, though I'm not into romance.
