I recently finished Eva Luna by Isabel Allende and Of Mice and Men by Steinbeck and I loved both of them. I love how they didn’t sugarcoat things and gave me a view of a world I wouldn’t have otherwise been exposed to. Nothing whimsical, just gritty reality. I think about those books more than any others I’ve read so I was wondering if anyone can think of any that have a similar feel to that. I love the South American and western/desert setting as well so bonus if it is set there
