A lot of lesbians were looking after their gay male friends and counterparts during the aids crisis.

And it got me thinking, surely there were lavender marriages that faced this?

So it’s about her grieving her friend, the man who gave her children and protecting her from the rampant homophobia of that time, seeing him slowly withering away, the only one knows shes a lesbian, knowing she’ll be alone with this secret for both the families and her children.

Maybe she meets a woman in a similar situation and be lesbians?

I find the whole concept of a lavender marriage so fascinating, and thinking of it literally being killed by the aids crisis, forcing her and her husband to come to terms with themselves in this homophobic society?

I imagine them being older, like mid 40s? Both being career professionals.

    1. This is so hyper specific but if you are willing to pull back a bit on the details the 7 husbands of Evelyn Hugo has a lavender marriage, and I while I haven’t read it yet so don’t know the full details, Emily Austin’s new book “Is this a Cry for Help” is about a woman married to another woman who’s ex boyfriend dies and she gets thrown into grief so might be up your alley.

I mean if you are looking for nonfiction or memoir, I do not think lavender marriages were common in the 80’s during the AIDs epidemic. They were much more common in the first half of the 20th century.
