I’m looking to switch things up and have every other book I read be non fiction. I’d like it to have to do with history but other than that don’t care about the subject.

    1. Anything by Erik Larson; The Splendid and the Vile is my favorite but everything I’ve read is excellent.

    2. *The Warmth of Other Suns: The Epic Story of America’s Great Migration*, Isabel Wilkerson.

Mountains Beyond Mountains by Tracy Kidder (fairly recent history) and Say Nothing by Patrick Radden Keefe

*The Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors: The Extraordinary World War II Story of the U.S. Navy’s Finest Hour* by James D. Hornfischer.

I would suggest something by Mark Kurlansky. He tends to pick a subject and follow it through time. He has books on salt, paper, milk, and cod fish among others.

*The Splendid and The Vile* might be my favorite book of all time and is exactly what you want.
