Hey all! Looking for what it says in the title – some books that were originally fanfiction!
I am after the good, the bad and the wattpad, quality is no concern because this is the theme for my next book club so honestly if we end up with a shocker we will have a great laugh!
My only request is that you stray on the nicher side – no 50 shades, Love Hypothesis etc. as it’s for book club, I need to have options that people haven’t already read!
TIA, and hope you guys can bring me some variety as Google has proved tricky with this one 🙂

Mortal Instruments started as Harry Potter fanfic

Not niche because there are netflix shows but no one talks about it anymore. The OG – Cassandra Clare books were originally Draco Trilogy, from one of harry potter’s first war books(when there were just 3 books, no one knew what a deatheater even was). If you look into her fanlore, she was also the reason we have multichapter fanfic sites like ao3. I think its a fun book club rec because if you look at the movies/netflix show poster, you can tell who is draco, ginny and harry.
Christina Lauren’s Beautiful Bastard series were twilight fics.
Can it stay fanfiction? I really enjoyed The Other Bennet Sister! (Pride and Prejudice fanfic novel focused on Mary.)
If you like Sherlock Holmes, the Warlock Holmes novels are hilarious.
iirc Lois McMaster Bujuld’s _Shards of Honor_ started life as a Star Trek fanfic.
Paradise Lost.
Milton’s Paradise Lost started as Bible fanfiction.
Dante’s The Divine Comedy is self-insert Biblical fanfiction.
