I'm looking for a book to read with an eight year old on holiday. I'm going on a once in a lifetime holiday with my cousin and her daughter to SE Asia. I want to bring along a chapter book to read with my cousin's little girl during down time, maybe give my cousin a break etc., maybe make some nice memories with my mini cousin.
Mini cousin loves animals, she's very switched on and creative. I remember loving books like boxcar children, black beauty, wheel of suryah, but I don't know any recent ones. The other thing I want to avoid is a book with any substantial sad parts, it's been a tough and sad time in the family recently.
I would love suggestions for chapter books, involving animals, suitable for an eight year old that are not sad!
