I'm in 11th grade English and next term I get to choose whatever books I want to study. I have some ideas but I'm struggling to settle on one; I've been deep into fantasy until now. Thought I'd ask here.

I'm supposed to choose one or two classics and one or two modern books (can be past 10-20 years or around the 70s/80s/90s, wasn't specific) that I can trace analogous ideas to.

The books must be American (Or highly influential to/highly influenced by American fiction).

I'd prefer science fiction, as my teacher said a full sci-fi unit would be okay, but I'm open to more realistic literary fiction (just please for the love of God not Huckleberry Finn or anything like it).

More challenging books are welcome! I only get to do this because I've been excelling. It is supposed to be the fun final unit, though, so nothing crazy or boring please.

    Thanks 😀

    1. Not fantasy, but One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s nest by Ken Kesey. A true 60’s classic. Also Reservation Blues by Sherman Alexie…magical realism at its best
