looking for a tragic fantasy book

i am currently reading mistborn and often i find myself drawn heavily into the dark/thinking someone is dying scenes. feeling a huge thrill when characters are in hopeless/tragic situations often since they grip my interest.i am looking to see if there are books that fully focus on that aspect. specifically character death/near death experinces. also i do prefer it to be a fantasy book since i sometimes struggle reading non fantasy. thanks in advance!
