Sci-fi book where worlds must assert dominance in the universe by destroying other worlds and stealing their knowledge

Was inspired after watching a Three-Body Problem clip on YT. Would be cool if the worlds that destroyed others also get destroyed and their histories are kept in a massive library/database.
