I feel like I haven't been actively reading for a long time and I really miss when I always seemed to find something that interested me, but I can't think of anything now!! I've always loved mystery, or something thrilling and action-packed that really keeps you hooked and make you want to read it in one sitting. Something unique or "out-there" that leaves me with many thoughts after reading is good too, and if there's something that combines all of that, that's great too!!

I was here a few years ago. After being a fervent reader in my 20s, hit a wall in my 30s. Built my muscle again by focusing on page-turners and un-put-down-able books. A few that helped
      – Dark Matter by Blake Crouch
      – Recursion, same author
      – The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series
      – The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah

Read anything from Claire keegan….her books are short and crisp…. I’d recommend “foster” by her……what a beautiful writer

    3. The first thing that made me compulsively continue in years is The Second Apocalypse series by R Scott Bakker.

If you require optimism or have a hard time getting started with epic fantasy, probably not for you.

Or you can go an opposite route and read Into Thin Air, which I’ve read twice, both times in a single sitting.

      Blood Meridian

Beautiful scenic writing, set in the prime old west, incredible action, and extremely interesting villains that leave you thinking about them and what they’ve told you well after you’ve put the book down.

Even if you don’t read it now, add it to your list. it’s something everyone should read at least once.

two years is rough. stop trying to find something “good” and just find something that won’t let you put it down.

Nightwatching by Tracy Sierra (2024), woman trapped in her house with her kids and an intruder during a snowstorm. sounds simple, absolutely not simple. read it in one sitting, genuinely could not stop.

also just finished The Tide Brings Everything Back, Scottish fishing village, dead editor, 22-year-old secret the whole community buried. quiet thriller but something feels off from page one and never lets up. just released, free on KU.

We Solve Murders by Richard Osman if you want something fun and fast, retired detective, his daughter-in-law who’s a bodyguard, genuinely witty. don’t sleep on it. And if you haven’t read Dark Matter by Blake Crouch yet, that one first. no other instructions needed.

    6. Ilona Andrews Innkeeper Chronicles –A magic Inn, space werewolves and vampires, a lot of really unique aliens, mystery, romance, action, a fun and humorous series
