I have been looking into Ryunosuke Akutagawa's books, specifically Spinning Gears, Rashomon, and Hell Screen, since I've found Japanese literature is finally a good, challenging read for me, using more thorough, impactful and less used words compared to other books I have read, and hence loving No Longer Human, written by Osamu Dazai.
I appreciate the suggestions if any

Convenience Store Woman – I thought this sounded like the name of a romance novel. It is not. I quite enjoyed it. This one is not nearly as bleak or nihilistic as No Longer Human but still is about a person with clear social issues.
Anything by Murakami. Often called Magical Realism. These take place in a world where the unexplained and unexplainable is much more common. Lots of mysteries are raised in these compelling book. Answers are sometimes hinted at rather than clearly given and sometimes not even that. My favorites of those I’ve read were The Wind Up Bird Chronicle and 1Q84.
