So I learned English in my mid-20s, no formal training. I can write professionally but that's where it stops.
I want to write for myself now and I have no idea where to start. I want to write simple personal essays. Things I noticed, small failures, stuff that made me laugh at myself, my mental health, and so on. Jenny Lawson, David Sedaris kind of tone and voice. Nothing serious or wannabe profound.
My main problem isn't grammar or vocabulary as I can fix small errors with Grammarly. It's that I can't think before I write. My brain draws a blank when I have to think of something to write, and it spirals. No ideas, no structure, don't know where a thought goes after the first sentence.
So, I'm looking for:
– Short essays I can read for osmosis. Finish in one sitting kind of short.
– Something that teaches you how to actually think and write. Kinda like handholding through the process and starts extremely simple.
Thank you!
