My goal this year is to read 26 books in 2026. I love reading but it’s difficult due to my dyslexia so I stopped reading for a few years. Now I want to get back into it. I’ve only read 2 books so far which are the first 2 books in the poppy war series and I love them so far. I want to squeeze in some shorter novels though so I can get back on track.

I mainly like fantasy, romance, and adventure books but I’m open to all suggestions.

i’d def reccomend *The Emperors Soul* by Brandon Sanderson, it’s pretty short but still has that rich magic system vibe and worldbuilding without being overwhelming. also maybe *Piranesi* by Susanna Clarke, it’s a bit diffrent and kinda dreamy but not super long and the writing is pretty accesible. if dyslexia makes things tricky, shorter chapters help a ton and both of those felt easier to get through imo. also audiobooks alongside reading can make it way less tiring, thats what got me back into reading after a slump too.

How do you feel about middle grades books? As a teacher of that age group, I read them often, and I do count them in my yearly totals. They’re typically pretty short, easy reads, and I find that they are often good for the soul.

The Wild Robot is actually a really beautiful and sweet novel, for example. I never would’ve picked it up if my students hadn’t asked for it for read-aloud. Holes, Because of Winn-Dixie, and A Wrinkle in Time are also excellent. Winn-Dixie actually makes me cry at least once a year. Oh, and The Giver quartet. Really anything by Lois Lowry or Kate DiCamillo is worth the time.

If you’re into history, the Dear America books are also really engaging and interesting reads. The American Girl historical books are good, too, but they are mostly at a level a little below what I’m comfortable counting for myself.

I just think everyone would benefit from picking up some middle grades books every once in awhile.
