Hi all! I have a rough week ahead of me and would like some recommendations for novels that feel transformative. I'd like a story where the main character battles internal struggles that change them for the better. It does not need to be about addiction, it could be mental illness or something else entirely. Usually, I enjoy a challenge but this week I need something easier. The subject can be complex but the writing needs to be digestible.
Alternatively, I'd also appreciate suggestions on a page-turner. Something fun to read. Could be a thriller, could be something heartwarming, really just anything that will keep my mind off of feeling awful. TIA 😊

*The Book of Form and Emptiness* by Ruth Ozeki could be a good choice. Two of the main characters, a mother and her son, both face challenges with their own mental illnesses. While the novel can occasionally be dark, it’s message is ultimately uplifting.
Edit: Also, I hope this is a *new page* (pun intended) for you, internet stranger. I wish you all the best for the days to come.

*Psalm for the Wild Built* by Becky Chambers is absolutely lovely. It’s funny and sweet, but what I love most about it is that it confronts complicated issues like identity crisis. It’s profound and delightful.
Also, just wanted to say that l’m wishing you all the best with your detox. You’re strong and it’s gonna suck but you got this! I’m at 32 days sober (alcohol) and I’m feeling good. You’re going to kill it, friend.
