I really love books where there is basically no action aside from people living somewhat normally but the book is extremely gripping due to the writing and the intensity of the feelings and reflections. Often the narrator/main character is unreliable because the story is about feelings and told through their feelings. Recent books I’ve loved include:
– any Sally Rooney but especially Normal People
– The Rachel Incident
– Heart the Lover (especially the first two sections)
Please help me completely wallow in my feelings the way these did!

I really do wish slice-of-life was a more popular genre in English language books.
Erasure – Percival Everett
Summer Sisters – Judy Blume (one of her few adult novels)
Revolutionary Road – Richard Yates
An American Marriage – Tayari Jones
The Sun Also Rises – Earnest Hemmingway
Any Charles Dickens novel, honestly.
Mileage may vary a bit on how much these fit what you’re looking for.
