All I read is thriller, so I’m looking to take a break- but I love how thrillers grip me. I love weird, triggery stuff. Some non-thriller favs:

My Dark Vanessa, All the Ugly and Wonderful Things; thriller favs: Gone Girl, Little Secrets.

    Thank you in advance!!

    1. The Round House – Louise Erdrich. It’s a combination of coming-of-age, mystery, Native American lit, and social commentary regarding violence against Native American women. It’s not weird, though.

For “weird”: Hangsaman – Shirley Jackson (1951). It’ll only be a potential page turner for you if you consider character-driven stories page turners as well (I personally do). This one is about a 17 year old girl with a narcissistic father who is sexually assaulted by a much older man. The book then chronicles her becomes increasingly dissociated and detached from reality as the story goes on.

    2. Fadeout by Joseph Hanson, a Dave Brandstetter Mystery.

The first in a series of crime novels about a gay insurance investigator set in Southern California in the 1970s. Also published in the 70’s the series is a great look at the time, well written with fantastic prose, and to me the author accurately captures both the cities and the rural parts of California. Both the plot and the characters are compelling. I’d compare the books to a Coen brothers movie.

This series is my favorite go to for a page turner right now. I’m currently on book 5 of 12.

The Scent of Oranges by Kathy George. It’s set in Victorian Era London, I found it to be entertaining.

    4. When you get back to thrillers Nobody Knows You’re Here by Bryn Greenwood is so good. I’m reading All Of The Ugly And Wonderful Things right now and I’m really loving Wavy. She’s a tough little lady.

    5. 1. The Red Palace by June Hur
      2. I’ll Stop the World by Lauren Thoman
      3. Foul Lady Fortune by Chloe Gong
      4. The Benevolent Society of Ill-Mannered Ladies by Alison Goodman
      5. Something is Killing the Children by James Tynion IV
      6. Long Way Down: The Graphic Novel by Jason Reynolds
