I don’t know if the mods will pull this but I’d like to know about the people who post here saying they’re “new to reading”. Obviously you’ve been reading at some point otherwise you couldn’t post here. But why haven’t you read books before? I understand if you’re new to a new language and want to try to improve your language skills but what about if English your native language. Did you find books boring, too long? Never found a subject/author that appealed to you. I’d really love to know. Thanks

    1. I’m not one of those posters but I am trying to read more because I haven’t read books much for several years now.

Personally I have a hard time finding books that I like or that hold my attention. When I find a book I really like, I’ll be obsessed and unable to put it down. But usually I don’t experience that and find books boring, or the characters are annoying and make dumb decisions. There’s also that I dislike common tropes because they tend to be rooted in problematic societal norms. i.e. misogyny, homophobia, etc.

When I’m recommended books that are more queer they tend to revolve around people in their teens or early 20s and the books don’t feel very mature.

I’m trying to read anyway though, so that I can get to where I’ve found favorite authors and figured out what I like and what I don’t more thoroughly.
