Hi everyone! I’m about 100 pages into Butter by Asako Yuzuki, and it’s so incredible thus far. Literally so amazing. However, because it’s such an immersive story with dynamic, complex characters and it’s easy to get totally sucked in…I’m also starting to re-experience body dysmorphia / a lot of negative self-talk about my body. Which is SO DUMB because one of the central themes is the absolutely absurd pressure women have to shape their bodies to meet beauty standards. But it’s viscerally reminding me of all the really toxic standards I grew up with and that internalized voice in my head that only can see physical imperfections and is obsessed with weight…
Anyway wondering if anyone else has experienced it and if so, did you keep reading? Did you stop? Does it get better or worse as the book goes along?
Also no spoilers please ♥️♥️♥️ just want to hear overall thoughts about this theme. I really want to finish this book but am genuinely like “AH” inside.
