I'm looking for novels that capture the feeling of impressionism. Not books about impressionist artists, but books that feel like a Monet or a Degas. Fragmented narratives that prioritize mood over plot. A preoccupation with light, atmosphere, transient moments. Memory presented as something hazy and reconstructed. Characters glimpsed in motion rather than fully captured.
I recently read something that touched on this a bit, but I want to go deeper. If it helps with recommendations, I also have a fascination with the French Revolution, so if there's anything that blends impressionistic prose with that setting or themes of upheaval, memory, and fleeting moments, even better. What books come to mind?

The last unicorn – I feel like this book only works when you stop thinking about why things happen and just start to go with the flow
