Invisible Women: Data Bias in a World Designed for Men by Caroline Criado Pérez
It’s kind of a punch in the face in terms of reality check; I took plenty of breaks while listening to the audiobook, but an excellent book.
Your description reminds me a lot of **Piranesi** by Susanna Clarke, a beautifully written, strange, mysterious, compelling little fantasy/magical realism novel. The main character lives in a strange world, with no real memories of their past, or of any other world, and as the story progresses we the reader, along with the protagonist, begin to unravel the mystery of both their own character, and the world itself.
Another great book with a lot of depth and various discussions of the human experience, more in the non-fiction realm, is **Into the Wild** by Jon Krakauer. The story of an aimless-but-intelligent young man seeking more in life, heading out on a journey full of interesting encounters and deep life lessons.
Another compelling, whimsical, funny novel that deals with a lot of musings on life and the human experience, is **Jitterbug Perfume** by Tom Robbins. A quirky, sort of hippie/counterculture vibe, filled with adventure and a bit of magic. If you enjoy his writing, all of his books are worth checking out, and are filled with amusing, mildly philosophical takes on life.
