Every year I try to read a few likely candidates before the Nobel announcement so I have some context when it drops. Last year I finally got around to Jon Fosse after hearing his name for years. Made the win actually mean something instead of just a headline.

Who are the serious contenders this time around? Can Xue always gets mentioned. Gerald Murnane keeps popping up. I've heard Laszlo Krasznahorkai's name in these conversations for a decade.

If you had to bet on one writer to win in the next few years, who is it and what book should I start with? Looking for actual reading recommendations, not just name-dropping.
