Watched Stalker again last night and it got me thinking about what novel captures that specific feeling. The long silences. The landscape that feels alive. The conversations that sound like prayers. The sense that something important is happening just outside the frame.
I know Tarkovsky wrote his own diaries and they're great. But I'm looking for fiction, not his personal writing. Something with that same weight. The Zone is a place you can't quite reach. People trying to believe in something they can't name.
What novels give you that Tarkovsky feeling? The ones where the world itself is a character and you finish them feeling like you just went somewhere.
