I’m noticing that the amount of YA books that *aren’t* the sub genres above are a lot less common. I am looking for a YA novel similar to those we were assigned to read in high school.
Stories that could actually happen in real life. Excellent character development. Raw. Moving.
I guess what I want is considered “basic” compared to the popular YA sub genres these days. I don’t want to escape into another world. I’m not saying that there’s anything wrong with it. It’s just not my preference.
As a new writer, I’m trying to read titles that are more my style and I’m just not seeing anything. I want to base my book on a personal tragedy. It won’t be a memoir but I’m not opposed to reading a YA memoir.
