I am 29 F I’ve mostly been read sci-fi and fantasy but would be open to other genres. I love to travel, hike, crochet/knit, ride horses. I love animals and got a degree in animal science. i did a lot of wildlife rehab and worked with sea turtles and tortoises which are some of my favorite animals. I also am really into weird diseases and parasites. I kind of like it when a male character gets a bit injured at some point. I like when there’s a little action and adventure and some comedy. I don’t mind if being dark but if the book is just depressing and slow I might get bored. I’ve read a bit of the Brandon Sanderson books and I liked the first part of the Mistborn especially the first book but some of his books were a bit slow for me. I loved the Dungeon Crawler Carl Series though I definitely missed some stuff so I’ll probably reread it at some point. I loved Project Hail Mary didn’t like the Martian as much but I think it was Will Weatons narration because I love the movie. Ive read the running man and am now reading the Bobverse series. Please recommend a good list of books i like to read while I knit and sometimes on my commute to work.

Hyperion is so good I consider it a perfect sci-fi.
Children of Time, Adrian Tchaikovsky. If you love animals and sci fi….go with this one. This book stands alone without cliffhangers but there are multiple sequels, so you can continue or not, after reading the first.
You may also be interested in Brin’s Uplift books, for animals/ sci fi reasons. Skip Sundiver and read Startide rising, if you want sci fi on an alien planet with a crew of dolphins.
Enjoy!
I enjoy a lot of the same books and had a pretty good time with Red Rising.
Also just grabbed Hyperion and am looking forward to that one but decided not to try to read it at work when I might be distracted.
Ilona Andrews Innkeeper Chronicles –A magic Inn, space werewolves and vampires, a lot of really unique aliens, mystery, romance, action, a fun and humorous series
