Loved Frankenstein, found the atmosphere and dialogue to be very rich and found to be superior to the film. The questions it poses and the back and forth between creator and creation I found so intriguing.
I'd recommend I'm Glad My Mom Died, the prose is simple so its easy to read, and the simplicity makes the subject material hit harder I think. And Jeannette really is able to portray how awful her life was, its a painful read but I believe to be so helpful and informative for those who have experienced similar trauma or wish to learn more about those who have.
I'd warn people about American Psycho. I understand the shock factor and his descriptions of his clothes, furniture, sound system, care routine then interspersed with a multiple page gory description of murdering some women IS the point. But my god have I never felt such a slog chapter by chapter. I understand the commentary but I find it falls flat and I felt more jaded and empty after finishing, not curious about talking and debate or discussing the themes. I've never cared to revisit that. I'm usually unaffected by gore and violence, but the scene of him killing a man and his Sharpei dog just made me feel miserable and uncomfortable in a way I dont wish others to feel.
