My dad (61, white) loves history, but loves *his perspective* in history. He and I have very very different political opinions about most things and it often leads to arguments, but we both love reading and I love to buy him books. It’s also hard to find books I think he is willing to read that he hasn’t read already.
Some tidbits about him that may be helpful:
* He does historical reenactment (French & Indian War – Pre-Revolutionary)
* He has mentioned interest in reading more about Native American/Indigenous based history
* I’m fearful that I’d get him something that is too “in your face” about the reality of that history and he’ll stop reading and never be open to it in the future. I’m hoping to ease him in on seeing a different viewpoint
* He’s a prolific nonfiction reader and doesn’t really enjoy much fiction
* Enjoys the great outdoors: hunting, camping, hiking, fishing, etc

A couple books I’m considering (but would also love validation/more options):
* The Road to Concord by J.L. Bell
* An American Triumph by Tom Hand
Also on the consideration list from a similar old ask:
* The Heartbeat of Wounded Knee by David Treuer
* 1491 by Charles C. Mann
