Poolside noir. Bleak tropics. Caribbean crime. Trouble in paradise. Then give it midcentury vibes. Cigarettes, Wayfarers, classic boats, motels, palm trees.
Something that lands in between "A Perfect Day for Bananafish" by JD Salinger, The Beach by Alex Garland (wrong decade, but right setting and tone), Thunderball and Doctor No, White Lotus, The Talented Mr. Ripley (wrong continent, right vibes).
Not looking for humor or whimsy (no Carl Hiaasen). This is serious business.
