i have some audible credits i need to use this weekend so i can cancel my account, and i'm looking for suggestions. i love smart, weird novels that often have humorous elements. my favorite books tend to be speculative fiction, not hard sci fi or fantasy but adjacent, if that makes sense, and i love dark comedy. extremely engaging, humorous non-fiction is okay too. i would especially like recommendations for books that can only be found on audible, either books that can't be found on libby or hoopla at all or books with excellent audible exclusive narrators (like jane eyre narrated by thandiwe newton for example).

here are my current favorite audiobooks to give you an idea of what i'm looking for (also my suggestions for you if you like any of these books/authors):

    thistlefoot by gennarose nethercott

the golem and the jinni books by helene wecker

all the birds in the sky by charlie jane anders

hollow kingdom and its sequel feral creatures by kira jane buxton

sourdough and mr. penumbra's 24-hour bookstore by robin sloane

in the lives of puppets by tj klune

margo's got money troubles by rufi thorpe

the two isaac steele books by daniel rigby (very witty sci fi if you're not familiar, underappreciated and highly recommended)

the road to roswell by connie willis

the murderbot books by martha wells

also pretty much everything by carl hiassen and christopher moore

i already know about project hail mary, the martian, the bobiverse (not a fan), and dungeon crawler carl. i am especially interested in speculative fiction with jewish themes like the first two above. i'm very interested to see what else you recommend!

p.s. i recommend adding speculative fiction as a flair option for this sub if a moderator reads this.

The Yiddish Policemen’s Union by Michael Chabon hits that jewish speculative fiction sweet spot perfectly and the narrator absolutely nails the noir detective vibe.

A prayer for Owen meany. If I’m being honest I didn’t read any of your requirements but it’s a book I love and I think you’ll love it too
