I enjoy the setting of the 1930s-1950s since I am mostly into historical wartime fiction, both as a reader and writer. I love subtlety in romance and usually avoid books that are considered smutty (it’s not even appropriate tbh, considering the period). But since this is a very specific preference, it doesn’t have to fit it fully!
If you really know the melody of the song and how it’s sung, you probably know what I mean… It’s both beautiful and heartbreaking, and also has something old-fashioned about it.
However !!! Though the lyrics are about a romance that was full of promise until the woman he loved fell out of love with him (so it’s devastating), I’d maybe like a more positive ending? The keyword is that this song has a vibe of nostalgia, melancholia, reverence, the 60s… I want to read something similar, not necessarily as depressing.
