Does anyone know any books with a male main character and a prominent female secondary character like someone who’s important to the story but not necessarily a confirmed love interest (though there could be some potential)? Ideally, both characters would be between 18-25 but I am okay if they are outside that range. I’m also open to any genre.
A good example of what I mean is The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton. The main character is male, but Anna is also really central to the story. They’re not exactly love interests, but there’s still a strong connection and possible “something more” dynamic.

I see the mystery/thriller tag, but have a suggestion that would be more fantasy. “Flex” by Ferrett Steinmetz features a prominent male lead and secondary lead character. There’s no romance between them, strong connection, though.
