The genre could be anything- romance, horror, physiology, anything! I just want a book with the saddest gut wrenching ending ever, it doesn't really matter how the story goes as long as the ending is sad I don't mind it! would like plot twists, too!!

This question is difficult since I think a huge part of what makes a devastating or twist ending is not expecting it. “I’m thinking of ending things” is what came to mind first tho.
Flowers for Algernon. The devastation commences even before the end.
