I have been trying to read more the past couple of years and one thought that I keep coming back to is ‘if there are any books that capture the feeling or themes of some of my favorite video games?’ While I have been able to find some articles and posts about this topic, most of the results I was seeing focused too much on stories that felt like video games or were isekais. What I am more looking for are stories that explore similar themes and ideas to some of those games. It can be fantasy or sci-fi or a mix of both.
Examples of Games/Series in question
- Final Fantasy (In particular VI, IX, X, XIV, and XVI)
- Xenoblade
- Metaphor Rephantazio
- Fire Emblem (In particular Awakening and Three Houses)
Examples of Books I have read
- The Locked Tomb
- Percy Jackson
- Handful Warhammer 40k Novels (Only finished Voidscarred by Mike Brooks)
- Murderbot
- His Dark Materials

omg try “mistborn” by brandon sanderson! it’s got that epic fantasy vibe with a magic system that feels like it could be straight out of a final fantasy game.
