The most frustrating thing about women-led fiction is when the protagonist is getting along fine on her own, even happily, but we're meant to think she can't be fully happy unless she's in a relationship by the end, or at least has the prospect of one. I'm looking for a book that completely averts this. No trauma, no haunting breakups, no dystopian societies to bring down or dragons to tame, just a normal life that she happens to spend single from prologue to epilogue. And don't mention Convenience Store Woman, because my ideal FMC would never get into a fake relationship for any reason.

    1. Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple books…although I guess being constantly around murders and solving them isn’t normal per se….
