My last few reads featured an arrogant, self-centered protagonist who gets angry easily and then blames the people she’s mad at (ie treats her fits of temper as reasonable given the idiots around her). I’m already too good at all those traits in real life, so I’m looking for something more uplifting for my imagination. What book have you read recently in which the main character grows in character – more patient, wise, humble, self-controlled, etc.?

I’ve read the first two books of the First Law Trilogy and one of the more arrogant characters in it goes through a series of humbling experiences from which he takes all the right lessons and develops along the way. His is definitely one of the more compelling arcs.
But I haven’t read the third, so it could easily nosedive.
