Looking for a good novel that contains extensive graphic detail of crime, such as drug use, violence, prostitution (or sex crimes), in the context of a big city. Basically a novel that shows the reader the seedy criminal underbelly of a big city. I’m not at all squeamish, so no filters.
Not into sci-fi or fantasy genres.
Any recommendations?

Trainspotting. But be prepared to have to read everything in a heavy Scottish accent to understand it
*I posted this about this book a few weeks ago on a different request, but here’s a cut and paste:*
One of my favorite books is [Homeboy](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/611486.Homeboy) by **Seth Morgan**. Takes place in 1980’s San Francisco and his language is wildly poetic and vivid. I read he wrote some of it in prison. It’s hard to find because it’s out of print, or was when I discovered it in 96. And Morgan died in a motorcycle accident after he published it.
From the NY Times Review:
*”If ever the id were to stake out a homeland of its own, it would be the teeming San Francisco nether world of junkies, pimps, drag queens and hookers Seth Morgan conjures up in ”Homeboy,” his savagely comic and often brilliant first novel, to be published later this month. A former convict with personal knowledge of the San Francisco street drug culture, Mr. Morgan writes with the picaresque authority of a Joycean Hell’s Angel.”*
Bright Lights, Big City is a classic option for this
