Hello, I’m looking for a book to get me out of my slump. I’m not really sure what I’m looking for so I’m sorry, I’m going to be all over the place.

I’m looking for a book that’s decent quality (doesn’t have to be great or good), something with found friends/family, maybe. Or something with some mystery and stakes to it, but not scary/intense but with a little bit of suspense is ok.

I’ve read Lucy Foley’s stuff. That’s a little too intense for me. I’ve read some Nita Prose, and that’s a bit closer, but at the same time, irked me a bit. But at the same time, pump and dump dime a dozen paperback mystery series that involves cats, seaside towns, a bakery, etc, are a little too saccharine.

I love Sarah Addison Allen and Ruth Hogan, so I don’t mind some magical realism. I’m hoping for something set in the last 100 years – anything after World War II, preferably in America or Europe. I’m not looking for K-pop or Manga. Nothing apocalyptic or post apocalyptic.

Taylor Jenkins Reid is hit or miss for me. Elin Hildegard is generally good when I’m in the middle for something a little trashy, so I’ve read most of her stuff.

I LOVED here and now and then by Mike Chen. Also like Thursday Murder Club series. Also have really enjoyed Emily Henry including her YA book A Million Junes but her other YA books are too hard to find/too expensive

I’ve read house in the cerulean sea and spellshop and their sequels. Very much NOT looking for something like that or anything Becky Chambers.

Small towns, coastal/mountain/forrest where it’s about connecting with friends new or old, are great.

But not “this is the book store owner. She can read the emotion of a room from her pinky. She finds every dead body and is the main character in the town.”

Ugggh sorry to be all over the place. Bonus points if I can find the book at Barnes and noble today.
