Folks, fellas, fellers… I just want to find a solid read and I can't seem to. So, I was hoping y'all could help!
- No millennial snark, humor, or narrative voice. Nothing pulls me out of some fictional, fantastical world more than a narrative voice or jokes a stereotypical thirty-something would find funny. And, in that same vein: excessive swearing. Characters shouting expletives can be very fitting, and immersive even, but an example: "I should've known making a deal with the fucking devil would suck major ass." (quotation marks are for reddit formatting, that is something said in the head voice or narrator writing in the book). It doesn't need to be super heavy, or dark, or grim, but I do prefer a more serious and well-written narrative voice that sounds like the story is telling itself, and not the author reading it to me.
- Romance! Please, I love romance. And part of the reason I'm here is because I cannot find fantasy, with romance, that doesn't also involve the above. Ideally it would be a slow-burn, with zero insta-lust or pseudo slow-burn where it starts slow but EXPONENTIALLY scales from character building into nothing but sex and hungry eyes.
- Standalone! Or, at the most, a manageable trilogy. I don't want another ACOTAR where there's 5 books but the only two worth reading are the first 2 (IMO).
Those are my three pillars! Overall I think it's pretty simple, and I hope it actually is simple. Regardless, thank you for reading this! I hope you have a good day or night.

Mages of the Wheel is amazing but is an unfinished series. It was the best book/series I read last year. A fantasy inspired by the Ottoman Empire with a different couple each book; each book is linked and the same characters appear however.
