I’m in the middle of reading The Brothers Karamazov by Dostoevsky right now and one flashback was about a young lieutenant being treating the soldier/orderly that serves him poorly, and once slapping him twice very hard that he started bleeding while the soldier didn’t even dare to protect himself, the lieutenant later regretted it very deeply that he begged for forgiveness on his knees crying.
I liked this story so much. A relationship between two male characters with power imbalance and some kind of abuse of authority(?) always interests me, like an officer vs a soldier or a master vs a servant or even son vs father. Does anyone have suggestions for books with the main story like this?
